Portugal
Portugal is a southern European country on the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain. Its location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture: stockfish and grilled sardines are among the national dishes, the beaches of the Algarve are popular tourist destinations and much of the architecture dates from the 16th to 19th centuries, when Portugal was a major maritime power.
Angola
Angola is a southern African country with a diverse landscape, including tropical Atlantic beaches and an intricate network of rivers and sub-Saharan desert that stretches across the country's border into Namibia. Traces of the colonial era can be found in the Portuguese-influenced cuisine and numerous landmarks such as the Fortaleza de São Miguel, a fortress built by the Portuguese in 1576 to protect the capital Luanda.
Mozambique
Mozambique is a country in southern Africa whose long coastline on the Indian Ocean is home to marine parks and numerous popular beaches such as Tofo. On the mangrove-covered island of Ibo in the 250 kilometre-long Quirimbas archipelago, which consists of several coral islands, ruins from the Portuguese colonial era can be visited. In the Bazaruto Archipelago further south, there are reefs where dugongs can live protected.
