Ukraine is a large country in Eastern Europe, known for its Orthodox churches, the Black Sea coast and forested mountains. The capital Kiev is home to St Sophia's Cathedral with a golden dome and mosaics and frescoes from the 11th century. The Kiev Cave Monastery is located on a hill above the Dnieper and houses burial objects from the Scythian period as well as catacombs with the coffins of mummified monks.
